Cornwall Street Barristers is proud to have supported The Haven Wolverhampton as our charity of the year in 2019. The Haven supports women and dependent children who are vulnerable to domestic violence, homelessness and abuse.

Successfully raising a total of £2041.50 through their fundraising efforts Staff and Members of Chambers got involved in a myriad of ways ranging from running the Birmingham 10k to hosting a Spring Ball. This fundraising culminated in the organisation of a Family Law Conference centred around the Government’s proposed Domestic Abuse Bill.

Jade Secker, Fundraising Manager at The Haven said “You really have gone above and beyond in your support for the women and children at The Haven. Your support has had life changing impacts on so many women and children who access the service and are at risk of domestic abuse and homelessness and for this we cannot thank you enough”.

A donation of £2041.50 has huge impacts for a charity such as The Haven. It could provide 1021 crisis calls to The Haven emergency helpline. This helpline is the first step for many women away from abuse and, with the UK statistic being 2 women a week being killed as a direct result of abuse, this can sometimes be the crucial difference between life and death. Alternatively, this donation could pay for a Criminal Justice Support worker to ensure 19 women are supported when having to face their abuser in court.

In addition, Jade Secker commended the manner in which these efforts have raised awareness of the risk of abuse and the services available to those in need of assistance. Cornwall Street Barristers is delighted to have supported this fantastic cause.
