Cornwall Street Barristers’ practising door tenant Rebecca Chalkley prosecuted former tennis star Bros Becker on the instruction of the Insolvency Service at Southwark Crown Court this week. The tennis star was found guilty of four charges under the Insolvency Act and was acquitted of a further 20 counts relating to his 2017 bankruptcy.

The tennis commentator and former star player faces a potential seven year jail sentence following the jury’s decision to find him guilty of removing property, two counts of failing to disclose estate and failing to disclose a debt.

Some of the critical issues in the case centred around the whereabouts of several of the star’s awards and assets including two out of three of his Wimbledon trophies, his interests in various properties both in the UK and in Germany, and other business transactions.

Rebecca Chalkley acted for the Insolvency Services and Joanathan Laidlaw QC for Mr Becker.
