Cornwall Street Barristers’ professional discipline specialist Jonathan Storey (instructed by Alicia Pimblett of the National Education Union) secured the acquittal in regulatory proceedings of a teacher charged with serious online grooming offences.

Jonathan’s client, a primary school teacher from the North West of England, was accused by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) of sending sexual messages to a 14 year old boy. During the course of the five day hearing Jonathan cross-examined two police officers, including a Detective Inspector, on the limitations of their investigation and called an expert witness who was able to cast significant doubt on their findings. As a result, the panel hearing the case found the regulator’s allegations not proved.

Jonathan, who was this week ranked as a Leading Junior for professional discipline in The Legal 500 UK Bar 2025, specialises in the defence of regulated professionals. He is regularly instructed by the main teaching unions and enjoys a strong track record in cases of high sensitivity and technical complexity.
