We are thrilled to announce that The Queen has appointed David Swinnerton to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Robert Buckland QC MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.
The Lord Chief Justice has deployed him to the Northern Circuit, based at Liverpool Crown Court with effect from 20 April 2020.
David was called to the Bar in 1995 and completed his pupillage with Chambers in 1996 under the supervision of HHJ Peter Cooke and James Quirke. He has practised on the Midland Circuit ever since and in 2016 he was appointed as a Recorder on the Northern Circuit. He has been Deputy Head of Chambers at Cornwall Street since 2017 until his appointment and was Head of Recruitment and Pupillage for a number of years.
Chambers Director James Farmer said: “We are absolutely thrilled David has been appointed to the Circuit Bench but sad too as he will be sorely missed. David has been an integral part of Chambers for over 20 years. In his role as Head of Recruitment and Pupillage he has been the face of Chambers in raising our profile as an excellent Chambers to practice from and has supported and mentored many students and pupils in Chambers and across the Circuit. In his role as Deputy Head of Chambers he has supported me immensely on the day-to-day activities. He will be missed greatly but we extend our huge congratulations and best wishes to him for his future career on the Bench. ”
Chambers warmly congratulates HHJ David Swinnerton on his appointment and wishes him all the very best for the future.
