Christopher Pembridge, instructed by Bains Solicitors, secured an acquittal for his client at Northampton Crown Court on the sole count of rape.
The defendant, a man of previous good character and a father of three, had been in a short relationship with the complainant, who was pregnant with his child at the time. The trial involved considerable cross examination on mobile phone messages between the parties. which raised the possibility that the complaint had been fabricated following a dispute between the parties over money.
The jury deliberated for over 5 hours before returning a not guilty verdict.
