At Cornwall Street Barristers we understand that those who are considering or even determined to pursue a career at the Bar will want to undertake a mini-pupillage. We also understand the importance of being able to list at least one mini-pupillage on any application form for pupillage.

Cornwall Street offers up to twelve unassessed mini-pupillages every year, which includes participation in mini-pupillage schemes offered through the Midland Circuit. Our mini-pupillages are unfunded* and typically last for three days. We aim to give our mini-pupils a taste of all the areas of work undertaken by a substantial common law set in the Midlands but this cannot be guaranteed.

If you are selected for a mini-pupillage with Cornwall Street you can expect to shadow a junior barrister. You may shadow a different barrister on different days or just one barrister throughout. In either case, you will gain an insight into the daily working life of a junior barrister in a regional set. For this reason, you will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement and you must be at least eighteen years of age at the time of your mini-pupillage with us.

Application for a mini-pupillage is by way of a handwritten or typed letter addressed to the Recruitment Committee and that must be sent to minipupillage@cornwallstreet.co.uk

Your letter must cover why you are considering a career at the regional Bar, your current job or where you are in your education and your likely availability. Please be aware that whilst we will try to accommodate your availability this cannot be guaranteed.

We receive a large number of applications and preference may be given to those who are likely to be applying for pupillage in the forthcoming twelve months but who are yet to undertake a mini-pupillage. However, the decision of the Recruitment Committee is final.
