Imogen Smalley

Pupil | Called 2023

Georgia Griffiths

Background

Imogen completed her academic legal studies in 2023. During her degrees, she represented individuals at their appeal hearings in the Social Security and Child Support Tribunal. Imogen also volunteered as a Telephone Advisor with Citizens Advice and taught school children how to identify sexual consent with the Schools Consent Project.

Before commencing her final year of training with Cornwall Street Barristers, Imogen worked as a Data Protection Paralegal for Lambeth Council, London. Here, she handled papers from child care proceedings. This experience provided Imogen with an understanding of the health and economic issues that frustrate a parent’s ability to act in the best interests of their child/ren and the trauma of family proceedings for all those involved.

Prior to a career at the Bar, Imogen obtained a Master’s (MSt) in Musicology from St Catherine’s College, Oxford in 2018. She studied her undergraduate (BMus) degree at King’s College London where she secured a three-year scholarship for vocal training at the Royal Academy of Music.

Upon commencing her MSt, Imogen turned to writing about regulation and medical advice around the act of listening to music in isolation, rather than as a social activity. She volunteered with the charity Sing Inside to promote awareness about the triggering effect that private music-listening can have for those with addictive personality traits. During her MSt Imogen also became a regular attendee of the Future of Food programme. She learnt about the regulation of ingredients found on the supermarket shelves and the impact of poor regulatory frameworks on consumers’ health.

Imogen now writes about legal developments and updates in consumer regulation and environmental law on her private blog, which can be found here. She is a member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers (ARDL).

Imogen was selected in 2023 to represent the University of Law in Paris at the Price Media Law Moot Court Competition, reaching the semi-finals.

Imogen is accepting instructions in all practice areas commensurate with her experience from the 1st of April 2025 in the South East and across the Midlands.
