Danae Larham

Practice Summary

Danae is regularly instructed in cases involving serious violence, rape and sexual assault, and cases resulting in fatality. She is experienced in the prosecution of complex multi-handed cases and, having enjoyed success against opponents in Silk, she has carved a reputation as formidable and persuasive advocate.

Vulnerable witness trained, Danae is adept at the handling of sensitive cases involving both defendants and witnesses whose best evidence requires particular advocacy and communication skills that go above and beyond the norm.

When defending, Danae is known for her exceptional client care and commitment to each case she is instructed in.

During a recent appointment as the interim Crown Prosecutor of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan Da Cunha, Danae was responsible for making all changing decisions, and the prosecution of all cases. She also providing training to local advocates and police in all aspects of criminal law, as well as provided advice to the Attorney-General and Government on criminal procedure.

Criminal Law

Danae’s court room style is focussed, clear and thorough. She is well liked by juries and displays excellent client care with thorough preparation balanced with sensitivity which enables her to provide clear and robust advice as necessary.

Danae is appointed to the CPS Advocates’ Panel at Grade 3 meaning she prosecutes serious and varied cases in the Crown Court. Danae has enjoyed success in the Court of Appeal, reducing sentences imposed on clients. She is often sought out by solicitors to defend serious sexual cases in the youth court.

Danae accepts both private and publicly funded work.

Notable Cases

R v S [2025] – court appointed to cross-examine in rape and attempt murder case.

R v M [2025] – defended an historic rape allegation against a man of previous good character. Case involved a carefully constructed s.41 (YJCEA 1999) application which sought leave to cross examine the complainant about previous complaints. Acquitted.

R v M [2025] – defended 16-year-old accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

R v Y et al [2025] – prosecuted 5-handed affray trial, charge ultimately reduced from attempt murder.

R v F (2024] – defending assault by penetration against opponent in Silk. Defendant had been remanded in custody awaiting trial. Acquitted.

R v A et al [2023] – prosecution of 12-handed violent disorder.

Vulnerable witness trained, with experience in grave crime youth trials.

Outside of work, Danae enjoys travelling and is a keen skier as well as watching live sports at Edgbaston and her beloved Leicester Tigers. Danae has an interest in languages, practising her conversational level British Sign Language.
