Michael has been instructed to both prosecute and defend in a number of high-profile murder cases, including R v Rafael, leading the prosecution of the defendant charged with murder following a random attack close to the Bull Ring Shopping Centre in Birmingham.
Much of Michael’s caseload involves consideration of evidence surrounding the defence and prosecution of defendants with complex mental illnesses and personality disorders.

Since taking Silk in March 2020, Michael has been expanding his practice nationwide to both prosecute and defend complex and high-profile cases, including several successful privately funded defence matters.
Equally comfortable defending or prosecuting, Michael has an approachable and down-to-earth manner enabling him to communicate with clients and juries alike such that the real issues are identified with concision and clarity.
His reputation has seen him instructed to prosecute the case of R v Skana, a defendant accused of killing of a 7-year-old girl in a park in Bolton, as well as leading the prosecution of the defendant accused of murdering a stranger waiting at a bus stop outside Birmingham’s Bull Ring shopping centre. (R v Rafael).
Defending in the case of R v Rowen (aka Glennon), he represented the defendant, a paranoid schizophrenic, who had decapitated his cousin with an axe.
Away from the court room. Michael was involved in the establishment the Northern Circuit Chapter of the Kalisher Trust. This well-renowned Trust aims to help bright youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their potential through advocacy and to help those with the requisite ability and ambition to develop careers as barristers at the criminal bar.
