We are delighted to welcome Jeanette Stevenson to Chambers who joins us from Goldsmith Chambers.
Jeanette has joined Chambers after successfully completing a ten month pupillage at Goldsmith Chambers in London. Her pupillage was reduced by the Bar Standards Board due to her previous experience and knowledge in the Criminal Justice System. Prior to commencing pupillage, Jeanette worked for 4 years at the Home Office as a designated Criminal Investigator investigating Organised Immigration Crime. She also worked as an Extradition Officer travelling abroad to extradite individuals from overseas back to the UK.
Jeanette believes passionately in an independent Bar that both prosecutes and defends and so has a mixed practice. Her knowledge of police and prosecution procedures stand her in very good stead to undertake not only prosecution but also defence where such evidence is to be questioned or challenged. She prides herself on her eye for detail.
She accepts instructions both prosecuting and defending in all criminal matters and is a Level 1 CPS prosecutor. She is a hard working, determined individual known for her straight talking and down to earth attitude. Jeanette is able to build excellent working relations with clients and solicitors alike and has experience of dealing with vulnerable witnesses including young children. During her time as a criminal investigator she was trained to deal with vulnerable witnesses and defendants where she conducted ABE interviews of people trafficked into the UK.
Jeanette is routinely instructed by the CPS in appeals against sentence and conviction. She also receives instructions from the Probation Service in relation to alleged breach proceedings. She has a keen interest in cases involving immigr\ation crime, proceeds of crime, extradition and regulatory work.
