Alexandra Bull has just assisted Amjad Malik QC, as junior counsel, in securing the conviction after a 7 week trial of Erald Mema at Oxford Crown Court, which led to a custodial sentence of 25 years.
Mr Mema was the last of an 18 defendant conspiracy to supply class A drugs. All the others had either pleaded guilty or had already been convicted after trial. This case involved the supply of multi kilograms of high purity cocaine throughout the West Midlands and the Thames Valley, and rested almost entirely on cell site analysis. Mr Mema was the ‘top man’, and thus a ‘rarity’, and he organised the supply of significant quantities of drugs, often from abroad, through his agents and couriers over a 6 month period in 2016.
He will be deported to Albania at the conclusion of his sentence.
